Our equipment is engineered around OSHA general industry standards and the relevant NFPA combustible-dust codes (61, 654, 68, and 69) for the application it's built for, but overall facility compliance also depends on correct sizing, installation, ducting, and ongoing maintenance — which is why we offer Installations, System Audits & Testing, and Maintenance as part of the full system lifecycle rather than treating compliance as a one-time equipment purchase.

Our Maintenance service is built around scheduled visits rather than one-off calls, since catching filter loading, motor wear, and airflow drift early is what keeps systems running at spec and out of emergency territory. A system audit measures your dust collection or downdraft system's actual airflow and capture velocity against its original design specification, flagging filter loading, duct leakage, or gate imbalance that has developed over time. We generally recommend an audit annually, or any time you've added or moved machines on a shared duct system, since changes elsewhere in the network can affect capture at every branch.

Hexavalent chromium is generated when welding or cutting stainless steel and other chromium alloys, and OSHA regulates exposure under 29 CFR 1910.1026. Source capture with a properly sized downdraft table or fume extraction system is the primary engineering control; see our Safety guide to Hexavalent Chromium for exposure limits and a fuller overview.

Yes, a single properly-sized central dust collector can serve multiple machines through a shared duct network, provided the ductwork and blast gates are sized to maintain adequate capture velocity at each branch even when only some machines are running. Our Ducting & Duct Design service handles this sizing, and pairing the system with Ecogate automatic blast gates keeps airflow — and energy use — matched to whichever machines are actually active.

An explosion vent (like our Vigilex domed or flameless vent panels) is designed to relieve pressure safely to the outside of a vessel if a dust explosion occurs inside it. An explosion isolation valve (like our Vigiflap valves) is designed to stop flame and pressure from traveling through ductwork from one piece of equipment to another, preventing a secondary explosion elsewhere in the system. Most combustible-dust systems use both as part of a layered protection strategy.

A spark detection and extinguishing system (like our Raptor line) continuously monitors ductwork for sparks or embers generated upstream by grinding, cutting, or other hot processes, and automatically extinguishes them with a water mist before they reach a filter or collector where they could ignite accumulated dust. It's typically recommended wherever a process both generates sparks and feeds a dry dust collection system.

Our Emergencies service provides 24/7 response for dust collection, downdraft, and spark and explosion control systems that go down unexpectedly. Because a failed system often means a compliance gap as well as a production stoppage, we prioritize emergency calls; contact our main line for current response times in your area.

A typical installation includes rigging and placement of the equipment, ductwork tie-in, electrical coordination, startup and commissioning, and a walkthrough of operation and filter-cleaning procedures with your team before we leave the site.
