Required CFM depends on the size of the work surface and the capture velocity needed for your process — heavier fume-generating work like welding typically needs more air movement per square foot than light sanding. As a general reference, our own Downdraft Tables line ranges from a 1,200 CFM Mini model up to 6,300 CFM on our largest 3'x8' and 4'x8' tables. Hexavalent chromium is generated when welding or cutting stainless steel and other chromium alloys, and OSHA regulates exposure under 29 CFR 1910.1026.
